That is the verse that comes to mind when I think of Pastor Ned Landers. Since early childhood I remenber him as my parents visited the church he served in while we were on fourlough. Him and his dear wife Marcene always had a big smile and friendly house when we went over to visit. They encouraged Telma and I in one of our most dire stages in ministry and God used him and Marcene to help Telma and I persevere to be where we are serving at today.

Ned was one of the few people I consider to be real pastors. The love of Jesus Christ shined through this dear man and his absence here will be felt.

Up to Alaska

Our trip to Alaska has been awesome. It has been great to see old friends and meet new ones. The weather has been great and we have enjoyed all the beautiful scenery. Our friends Stefan and Ivone along with their three kids have been very hospitable. We leave for Seattle on friday and to the final rounds of visits before we head back to Brazil. Keep praying for our safety in all these trips and for the financial needs we have to be met.

We have been busy visiting and sharing about the ministry in Brazil yet always find time for some fun! I know missionaries are not supposed to have fun and are expected to be constantley suffering! HAHAHAHAAH! Anyways we have had fun! So much that two weeks ago while enjoying tobogganing down a hill I crashed with Max, he escaped uninjured and I sprained my back! That will teach him you might be saying! Hey, thanks! HAHAHAHHA! Well the story goes on and Telma and the boys were ridding some horses here last week and Telma fell of one as she was galloping in an arena. She dislocated her shoulder and got a black eye! Hey I did not give her the black eye, for all you funny people out there! HAAHHAHAHAHAH! Anyways we are doing well and slowly getting better!
The boys are behaving well and have not gotten into any injuries! HAHHAHAHAH!
This Friday we head up to Alaska to visit friends and make some new contacts! Will try to keep away from any too extreme activities! HAHAHAHAHAHHA!

As we go around sharing about the ministry in Brazil and about the needs we are certain that God is already in the process to providing for all our needs! As Sherlock Homes would say, 'The game is afoot". The fun part really is meeting the brothers and sisters in Christ He will use to provide for our personal and ministry needs. As we meet the Church of Jesus made out of simple people like you and me, we are encouraged to continue in the service of the Lord in Brazil even amid the trials and tribulations! We love the service God has called us into yet it is not always an ocean of roses and when the going gets tough it is the prayers of those who love Jesus that pull us through!
So please pray, support or come experience first hand what Jesus Christ is doing in Brazil!

We are in eastern Washington this week and will be in western Washington next week. In the beginning of February we will be in Alaska and after that Bellingham, then it is one week to get ready and back to Brazil!

We already have 35% of the financial need for a vehicle already provided for! Please pray that we will get the rest before we return to Brazil!

Today we leave Boise, Idaho to visit friends in eastern Washington State. Furlough is going well and we are sure God will open all doors and fulfil all needs. The winter has not been a bad one so travelling has been very good. We still have two months ahead of us and look forward to getting together with all those that supported us through prayers or financially while also sharing the ministry in Brazil with new brothers and sisters in Christ we meet.

We have been here for three weeks now and have visited many supporters and scheduled many visits for the next two months.
It is always a shock to come to the USA and see the abundance God has provided for this nation. It is unfortunately though that so many Americans do not realize the blessings God has shed on this country. Our prayer is that God through His Holy Spirit will bring Americans back to a relationship with Him through His mercy!

We made it up to Seattle after 24hrs traveling! It was a great trip and only missed one connection. This week we are resting from the trip, getting our time adjusted (Brazil is 6 hrs ahead) and starting to schedule visits. We will be here till the beginning of March and have the goal of raising prayer supporters, financial supporters and even workers interested in serving alongside us in Brazil! Please pray for us and we look forward to seeing you!!!

We thought about putting this sign up at our house so that folks would not be concerned over us returning to Virgem da Lapa. This month was full of activity as we got ready to be three months out, had many evangelistic events and took care of planning for next year. We leave for the USA next Friday and till then will be on a miniature furlough visiting supporters from Brazil! Thanks for all your prayers and we hope to be with you soon!

Ok, so the title does seem some bit socialist. But we have had the opportunity to do a 1 hour Bible study in all the events this union has in our area! It has been a huge set of open doors and many women who life far away have been impacted! Praise God!

The past 10 days flew by! We received a YWAM team and were able to impact 10 different locations and over 800 people in 6 days! We traveled over 250 miles on dirt roads to reach these communities and were amazed at the thirst children and adults showed towards the evangelism. Our team consisted on a clown, a ywam missionary a pastor and me. We were able to use the fact that last Wednesday was children's day here in Brazil, to get into many schools and present tye Gospel to the students. In other places we did evangelism on the street and reached entire families. All this is thanks to your prayers and support! Our prayer is that the seed of the gospel will produce it´s fruit!

After 5 months with no rain we got some yesterday! It will help parch the thirst of the dry ground and turn things green. It won´t last though and serious rain is only expected in December. But it sure does make things nice and settles down the dust. Had a slippery muddy ride yesterday as we slipped and slid our way to a widows house to pay her a visit. She lost her husband two weeks ago and we went there to comfort her with the word of God and fellowship. Was great. The car arrived covered with mud in the outside and inside! Thank God for 4X4 with a differential lock!

Wow! Time just flies when you are having fun! We had an awesome month of September! God opened many doors making it possible for us to continue reaching many with the Word of God. In one meeting alone, at a distant rural community, twenty adults accepted the Lord as the Savior! The most challenging part will definitly be the discipleship. We are already working on it as the Lord Jesus begins to work in the hearts of these new believers through the Holy Spirit.

Our prayer is that the seed of the Gospel will NOT be "trampled under foot and the birds of the air" consume it, fall on "rocky soil," withering "away, because it had no moisture" or fall "among the thorns; and the thorns" grow "up with it and choke it out." May it find "the good soil," and grow up, "and produced a crop a hundred times as great"!!! (Luke 8:5-8 NASB)

For august there are many events planned, the irrigation project to finish and a YWAM team to work with for a week in the rural area with evangelistic events! Don´t forget to pray for us!

This month we have been working with the theme, "You are Special", with the children's groups we have been giving Bible studies to. We are using animal puppets for this and we talk about how each animal is different and special at the same time. The Biblical text we have been using is Psalm 139. Anyways be sure to keep us in your prayers! It has been hot and dry and rain is only expected in November!

The drip irrigation project is well underway. After months working on figuring out which families would benefit the most from these kits we have begun installing them. These are received with great joy as this "technology" is very new here! We see this as a chance of showing Jesus love for these folks. thanks for your prayers and financial participation!

This past week was marked by a big holiday in which the patron saint of the town we live in is worshiped. 20000 people gather along side many people of our town to worship an idol. Her name is Virgin of the Stone and the town gets its name from her. It is a statue of "Mary" that was found according to the legend in a small cave by dimond prospectors back in 1780. People come to seek her help in interceeding for them before God. Of course this takes Jesus out of the scene and is nothing more than pure idolitry. It makes us sad to see many we have shared the Gospel with loosing themselves in the adoration of this lifeless statue who can neither see, hear or speak. As the Bible says in Jerimiah 50:38,

"A drought ond her waters!

They will dry up.

For it is a land of idols,

idols that will go mad with terror."

Perhaps here the drought in this region is finally explained! For us the next months will be ones of lovingly confronting these evil that tradition has brought upon these dear people. After all Jesus loves them and wants to set them free from this slavery.

The past days flew by as we had a series of Bible teaching events at elementary schools and with families in the rural area. The Lord of the harvest blessed these Bible teaching events and we were able to once more explaining the Gospel of Jesus Christ clearly and have the joy of seeing many understand it for the first time.

As the seeds of the Gospel are sown we pray that the Holy Spirit will do the work only He can in transforming these dear children and adults from the inside out.

This past Sunday we were preparing to give a Bible study at a home of a family 15 miles out of town when all of a sudden we found out Mark was on the roof of their house! It was quite a surprise and almost caused a heart attack on most of those present. There he was just walking around the clay tile roof enjoying the countryside view! Telma and I are used to such situations ( raising 4 boys seems like prep school for fire and rescue workers) and were able o convince the Santa Claus apprentice to climb back down from where he got up. Anyways we praise God for protecting Mark and are sure his guardian angels will have a bonus at the end of the day! The Bible study went well and marked the beginning of the Bible studies we plan to give in that community, making Church planting possible.

These past weeks we have been visiting elementary country schools giving Bible classes. We have focused our lessons on the Wordless book, a all time favorite of kids around the world. Kids here have never heard of it before so it has become a very popular class. The message of salvation is clearly presented in this lesson and it has been very fulfilling to be able to give these classes! After the photos you can check out the messsage of the wordless book. Have you ever seen a book without words or pictures? Even without words, this book tells us a story about God and the best gift of all.

The Black Page (Romans 3:23)

This black color reminds me of sin. See how dark it is. Sin is all of the bad stuff that you and I do that makes God really sad. What are some of the things that you do wrong? All of those things we just talked about are sin. We all make bad choices. Even Mommy’s and Daddy’s sin.The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”This means that there is nothing that we can do to ever make us good enough to reach God. The sin in our heart makes our hearts black. But there is good news! God had a plan.

The Red Page (John 3:16)

God’s plan was to send His perfect son, Jesus. At Christmas, we celebrated that Jesus was born on earth and lived to be a young man. Jesus never sinned. Because of this, He was able to take our place and die for our sins. The red reminds us of the blood that Jesus shed for our sins. Jesus died on the cross so that you and I can be forgiven for the bad things we do. But guess what? He didn't stay dead. Three days later, Jesus arose from the grave. Later, Jesus went to heaven. Now He is preparing a place for all those who believe in Him. Because of what Jesus did for you, you can have your sins forgiven!

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave Him only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

The White Page Psalms 51:7

Do you see how clean this page is? Do you remember how black your heart is from sin? You don’t have to have a black heart. You can have a clean heart. Psalm 51:7 says: ..."wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." Jesus wants to forgive you of all your sins and take them away. His blood will wash away all of that yuckiness and darkness. The Bible says that when Jesus forgives our sins He totally forgets about them.

The Gold Page Rev. 21:18, 21

What color is this page? Gold reminds me of things that are very special. It reminds me of God. God is perfect and He does nothing wrong. God created you and me. Gold also reminds me of Heaven. Heaven is where God lives. The Bible even says that the streets of Heaven are paved with gold! Heaven sounds like a great place doesn’t it? But there is one thing that can not ever be in Heaven. That is sin. We learned that the only way to get rid of our sin is to ask Jesus to wipe it away.

Do you believe that you have sinned and made wrong choices?
Do you believe that Jesus came to forgive you of your sins?
Would you like to ask Jesus to come into your heart and make it white as snow?

The Green Page (II Peter 3:18)

Once we ask Jesus into our heart, we should not be the same. We now have Jesus to help us make good choices. The green page stands for the things that a Christian’s need to grow! The Bible tells us in 2 Peter 3:18 that we are to "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Plants need three things to grow: sunshine, rain and good soil. Christians need to pray, read the Bible, and spend time with other Christians at church. All three of these will help you grow.

If you have just prayed to God and meant it from your heart then you will go to Heaven when you die! You only have to receive the Lord once. Please go and tell your parents, brothers, and sisters that you received the Lord as your Savior and that you will be going to Heaven and tell them what they can do to go to Heaven.

A compliment not given is like a present put away. This saying is very true and we must be sure to tell folks around us how important they are to us before it is to late. People need to be encouraged even if what they are doing is their responsibility to be doing. Telma has been visiting women in the rural areas and giving Bibles studies along with a PicNic event for these women who suffer such hardships in the isolation of the wilderness. The results have been awesome and many lives are being impacted. These women leave the events renewed and with a sense that they are special. I have helped with transportation in these events and also with the Bible studies for the children that accompany their mothers so that the moms can have a break. Please pray that the word of the Gospel will grow in the hearts of these women who need God so much in their tough lives.

We are waiting for the irrigation equipment to arrive to start that project and are also working on a dry toilet bathroom desing for the areas where folks do not have any bathrooms other than the great outdoors.

Wow, I cannot believe my last post was a month ago. Just lost track of time!
This month rushed by, I organized movie presentations of Narnia for kids and teens in the rural areas and Telma did the devotionals in over 10 womens events in the rural area celebrating the month of mothers day. The Boys are fine and were happy to recieve the visit of two of their cousins last week. We are moving the office to one of the rooms in our house since the extra house has proven to be un-necessary to recieve groups of visitors to help in the Ministry (We plan to house them in buildings within the small communitites they come to serve.
Lets see if next month I get a post out sonner! HAHAHAA!

End of April

As we come to a close to April winter approaches here in Brazil and the drought season begins in this area. The weather is dry and hot during the day and cold at night. It has been nice to have cooler nights to sleep in!

This past week we had five different evangelistic events in the rural communitees. All went well and we figure some two hundred adults, teens and children were impacted. God has continued to open some great doors so that we can go in with Bible teaching events. Thanks for your prayers!

Real Easter

This week we visited three rural elementrey schools and spent four hours in each teaching the real Easter story and coordinating fun activities related to Easter. It was awesome and all went well. It was great to see kids and parents get a better grasp of all that Jesus did for us on the cross. For the next couple of weeks we will be visiting schools in the rural area, coordinating Bible studies in town and in rural area and working on a small irrigation project for around June. Please be praying for wisdom, protection and fertile ground for the Gospel to grow in.

God blessed us on tuesday (15th). Telma was getting dirty clothing out of the laundry basket when all of a sudden she saw a scorpion in the middle of the clothing! If she had been bit it would of been a painful experience similar to childberth with no anestetic! Not to mention how dangerous it is for the little ones. We all got together after the scare and thanked God for His protection!!!

This month we had carnival holiday which means that nothing works for 10 days. We made visits to friends we have made in the rural areas we have visited and worked on material for the next series of Bible lessons for the kids in the rural schools we will be visiting.

The theme for the next series of classes has to do with Easter. We want every child to understand that Easter has nothing to do with easter chocalate eggs or a bunny that lays them?!? Any ways the material is ready and we are set to go.
It has rained a lot here these past days and the dirt roads have become strips of mud. We had to cancel 2 events this week because of mudslides on the roads. Next week we have 3 events scheduled so we are praying for no mudslides on roads. Thanks for your prayers!!!

Mens gathering at remote village

This month of February we have visited many houses as we work alonside a local association that promotes childrens rights and tries to help families in the rural areas. This year their goal is to promote family values and we are working alongside them as event organizers and Bible teachers in the visits and in the events that involve children, mothers and fathers.

Telma has given Bible studies in various womens meetings in the rural areas and I have worked with he visits to these families homes and with the events for the fathers.

This work is very hard since the men in these rural communities are very closed to outsiders and are very suspicious of anyone who visits them. We have had success though and many men have participated in the "social events" we have organized for them. These are gatherings where they get to play dominos and cards and after a small snack hear the gospel, presented in a very smooth way of course. The results have been awesome and the association we are working with has been very glad with the never before seen results! Praise God.

Anyways that is what is going on these days. For next month we will continue with these visits and be working on five childrens evangelistic events at 5 rural area elementry schools.

Prayer letter February 2011

Dear friends and family,
Our life is like a cheese. Trouble is that there are mice that want to eat away at this cheese called our life. These mice are sent by a thief whose only aim is to steal and kill and destroy (John 10:10) our lives. These mice have different names such as vice, fear, hate, disobedience, bad words etc. Each time we let one of these mice come into our lives, they start to chew away at our life. Slowly they destroy us and make us ugly and filthy. But that is not the end of the story! There is a person who wants to save us from these foes! This person is Jesus and He comes to give us life and life in abundance (John 10:10)! As we read the Bible we set mouse traps around our lives so that when these mice come they get caught as the Truth we learn from the word of God catches their lies. As we pray we let cats into our lives and these chase the persistent mice away. As Jesus helps us to purge our lives from these mice the pieces they tore away are replaced by God’s forgiveness! Who wants Jesus to come into your life and chase the mice that are chewing away at it? Jesus wants to give you life in abundance today!

This was the Bible story we used for the entire month of January as we visited 13 villages and spent the day with kids, teens and mothers from these areas. Over 500 people were impacted and all heard the clear message of the Gospel. We would arrive at these distant villages in the morning and leave in the late afternoon.

Not only did we give the Bible lesson and teach Bible songs but we also organized group games, individual challenges and ate lunch and dinner with these dear people. For most of these children this was the only time during vacation that they would hear a Bible story and participate in a day of fun and games! It was a very busy month but God was faithful as always and took care of us.

We are adjusting well to our new home and the Boys have started school already. We traded the car that had been loaned to us for a 2001 Land Roved Defender 110. This vehicle has proven to be a huge blessing since roads here are very bad and our other car could not withstand them. We have carried up to 18 people in it!!!

We have many challenges ahead of us for this year; working on evangelism in distant villages, me finishing my Moody Bible Training (Final tuition need 1,500), us joining Pioneers Mission Brazil and furlough in the US (Airfare need 7,000). As you know we postponed the furlough trip to the US to the end of this year. We plan to be in the US from November 2011 to February 2012. Together we will conquer all these challenges with God’s help!

Great January!

Yesterday we finished our 13th childrens event for the vacation month of January. It was a very busy month since we are still getting used to our new town and were gone 3 days a week running these day long events. We averaged 40 to 50 kids per event, plus some parents that were present. So out of 13 events we were able to share the Gospel to over 500 kids from distant rural areas! The games and activities we also developed for these kids were also a highlight of their vacations. Thanks for all your prayers for these events!!!

The visits to the rural comunities has gone very well and produced many fruit. It has been great to travel the dirt roads to eventually get to these small villages were 20 to 50 kids are waiting for you to arrive. Many parents are present in these programs and also hear the Gospel. Our goal is to sit down in February and choose five to eight of these comunities visited to be visiting several times monthly working with kids, teens and mothers. Continue to pray for the rest of the events we have for this month.

After spending the holidays with family and friends we are back to our new home.
We were gone for 10 days and were pretty tired from the 16 hour drive up (split in 2 days).
A big blessing was that Telmas brothers let us use a Land Rover Defender 110 for the work we will be doing up here. We left the other car they loaned us there and drove this more reliable vehicle for dirt roads up. It has already been a big blessing as we have to drive out to little comunitees that are hard to reach due to bad dirt roads.

Matheus and Max remained with my parents to spend the month of January with them. They will be attending camp and spending lots of time with grandpa and grandma.

Telma and I are busy with 13 days of Vacation Bible school in 13 different small villages. So far we have had two of these events and the results were great. The theme is John 10:10. It has been a privaledge to teach these children. Telma and I run the recreational activities, then Telma plays the guitar and teaches the songs for the Bible lesson, after that I give the Bible lesson and after that we pray with the kids.

Please pray for protection and for the Holy Spirit to touch the hearts of parents and children as only He can.

We are at my parents house. It was a 16 hour trip.
It is great to be with them and see my two brothers and new niece.
It has been a couple of years since all three of us have been together.
We will be here until the 27th then we go to Telmas family for several days. We hope to be back home on the 31st. For January we have 13 day camps scheduled in 13 different villages!

After four weeks of intense preperation and lots of work we are finally here in Virgem da Lapa! The move went very smoothly and we are thankful for all your prayers! The house is pretty much assembled and the Kids and Telma are doing well!
Next week we will be giving a training for the staff od 3 local organizations that work with poor folks from the vast rural area of these parts!
I will try to put some pictures up o the blog for you to see later on this week!

Boxes, boxes and more boxes!

The date for our move is November 27th!

We started officially packing this weekend. We want to get as much done early as possible since it seems to always get hectic a few days before any move!

The whole family is excited about the move and ready for this new stage.

Countdown to move...

Well, we are getting ready to get onto another move witch we hope will be the last one for the next 5 years.

The Lord opened some awesome doors for us in the little town of Virgem da Lapa some 1000kms up north.

As we have told you before we will be working in evangelism through doors opened by two different child assistence assosiations linked to Christian Childrens Fund.

I will be filling a slot that could be easily classified as that of a Chaplain for these two associations.

The great thing about this is that we will have access to about 10000 folks who live in distant rural villages that have from 10 to 40 families living in them. These are located from 10 to 60 kms from these two towns via dirt roads. They recieve hardily any visits from folks other than these Social workers we will be working along side.

We were able to rent a very good house on my last day in the town before returning form our last trip.

Our plan is to move around the 20th of November. Please pray for all the work involved in this and in all the adjusting we will have to go through.

The trip up to Jequitinhonha Valley was a great one. We visited 8 villages, each one with 20 to 40 families living in them. We had evangelistic theatrical presentations and the Gospel was presented in a very dynamic way.
Bibles and other evangelistic materials were also given out and kids and adults were glad to recieve them in these distant locations.
The first rains in five months came two days before we arrived so folks were very happy.

The other day I got this picture os a T-rex eating popcorn in our living room. Very rare even in Brazil! All is well in the Pereira's house other than usual international incidents 4 boys can get into. Telma and I are fine.

We are getting ready to receive an Alaskan who will be not only taking part in next weeks trip but also helping do some work on the Salvation Express bus. The floor has some rotten spots in it and needs to be changed. This will be a big help since the task is not as expensive as it is labor consuming.

Our next missions trip will be from the 9th to the 16th of October to the Jequitinhonha area. Our goal is to work mostly on evangelism. We are taking a team of five youth with a mission staff and a lot of Bible donations from the Brazilian Bible Society.

Salvation Express organizing...

This week we are busy organizng all the donations recieved by the Salvation Express. A lot of clothing was donated last week and needs to be re-packaged and seperated for the specific area it will be going to. These donations will be taken in two trips scheduled for October and November to two different areas. We are slowly getting volunters for these trips since they will last 7 days, a little longer than normal.

The Brazilian Bible Society is sending us a shipment of Bibles that should arrive this week. These are in very easy Portuguese and have huge letters, making it easy for simple folk to read.

Telma and the boys are doing well. Yesterday we went to a mountain closeby to have a picnic with some friends, it was great! We had an awesome view from the mountaintop. It reminded us that the most awesome things in life God gives to us for free!

We have been in contact with this mission for some weeks and it seems that we are going to be able to team up with them as we move uo to Jequitinhonha Valley to work with Church planting in rural communities. All is well in the home front. The big news is that the boys all have gone through the chicken pox in the past two weeks. We all made it through and they are doing well. Max felt very fourtunute to get the illness as he was looking forward to some days off his busy school schedule!
A trip in October is starting to get prepared and till then I am working on getting as much Moody training done as possible. We are also looking into a Brazilian Mission that fits in to our Ministry goals. They are part of an Mission based out of the US.

We are back on the normal routine as the boys resumed school. They only had 2 weeks of vacation and had colds half of the time. They were able to have some fun though viviting their cousins while I was traveling and when I took the to a friends farm to ride horses.

We are planning a trip in September to once more scout the land as we further plan to move 500 miles north. God continues to give us peace about this move and has been opening some doors.

The Salvation Express had 3 trips planned for the next 5 months. A restoration of half of the interior of the bus is planned for October. With this we plan to replace rotten flooring and add 4 sleeping spaces in the bus. A friend from Alaska will be coming down to take part in a trip and to help in this project.

The trip up north went very well! God prepared the way and things fell into place throughout the trip.
It took us 48 hours to drive up the 1500 miles and 50 hours to drive back. I was one of the two drives and when I was not driving I was sleeping!

We took a team of 4 medical students and 4 dental students along with a Doctor and Dentist who were in charge of the students. Medical equipment, dental equipment, donations and lot's of filtered waterwere amongst our payload. A semi truck with 44000 pounds of donations went along also!!! This was a miracle since this amount of donations was gathered in 10 days!

When we arrived in the city of Barreiros, Pernanbuco State what we found was unbelievable. After three weeks the city was still in utter caos. Mud all over the streets along with pieces of furniture, clothings and trash. The smell of suage was all over the place and folks we not even cleaning the houses since the destruction was so big. Over 60% of the houses in the city were destroyed!

Folks are living in the schools that did not get flooded, in friends and relatives houses and even in the bus station. We arrived and were directed by the Civil Defense to set up camp at a Agricultural College that was serving as a base to Police, Fire Fighters and the Army. Part of the donations we took were handed over to the Army for them to distribute and the other half to a Social Workers Organization. There was no way to distribute donations ourselves since even the Army and Police were having a hard time doing so!

We were able to get the Brazilian Bible Societies Mini-Hospital Truck to come and serve as a headquarters for our work in the local bus station. Along with the dental and medical services we offered to the comunitee, all recieved Bibles and other evangelistic material from the BBS missionaries that were with us.

Over 500 people were served in the 4 days we had the medical truck set up. The population was very thankful and the Light of the Gospel shinned in a town filled with darkness and gloom.
We were also able to withness to Police, Firemen and Soldiers as we worked along side them. In Brazil the tend of the protestant Church is to totally seperate themselves from the communitee serves and goverment workers.

Thank you for your prayers! They are what made this trip possible, joined with the prayers of those who lost all in these floods! Together we made a difference!

Tomorrow I leave with a team of 14 volunteers for one of the most affected areas of flooding in Northern Brazil. God really is bleesing everything and we were able to fill a semi truck with donations! The town we will be visiting is called Barreiros and is in the state of Pernambuco. 68% of the population of 43000 people were affected by this tragic flood! We will be working with the help of the Civil Emergency teams and the Army. The Brazilian Bible Society will be sending their clinic truck to serve as a base for the medical team to serve the folks suffering from the aftermath of the flood.

Please be praying for us during these 12 days! We will be in the midst of much dispair and only God can give us wisdom to know what to say to those who lost everything!

Anyways we will be leaving on the 8th and returning on the 20th. The Lord has supplied all the financial needs fo the trip along with a semi load of donations!
We will be working with some Churches up there that were totally destroyed by the flooding.

Two Brazilian states up north suffered from flash floods last week. The Salvation Express is heading up there to take medications, doctors and donations along with the message of hope of the Gospel. There are over 20000 people who lost there homes. The town we are going to was also affected and three christian churches fell down. Will keep you posted.

Well we had an awesome trip. After 5 days and 1300 miles we made it back. All went well and over 200 people recieved eather medical or dental treatment. Many also were given New Testaments and Bibles after being introduced to the Gospel. As the verse clearly says,

"By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
John 13:35 NASB

Francis Shaffer, in his book "The Mark of a Christian", said that this verse is what Jesus left for those of the world to judge if are His indeed!
Another verse that sobers me up many times to the need to love others is,

"If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen."

In all these trips a part of a serman I heard always comes to mind.

Next week I will be helping coordinate and drive the bus on a 5 day mission trip.

It is mostly a medical assistance trip since 4 doctors and 4 dentist are going along. We will though be giving out Bibles in the rural area and doing evangelizm.

The month of may is being dedicated to:
a- Getting Moody trainning up to date.
b- Organizing legal paperwork for the Salvation Express.

All is going well. I was able to purchase and recieve all the Moody material for this year. That was a great blessing given the uncertanty of the mail system in Brazil!
The trip in the begining of June will be a quick one taking Doctors, Dentist, an evangelizm team and a team from the Brazilian Bible Society.
We were able to get a family picture this week. Had to bribe the youngest kids with buble gum! All went well and after some very tense moments all was over! The result can be seen above. I asked the photo tech to put Clint Eastwoods face over mine but Telma did not permit it.

We got back from our trip yesterday, other than the flu all went well! Our three goals were to take musical instruments, Telma give Bible Studies and I help the staff of a local organization as they begin their walk with the Lord and survey this area for a possible move next year.

The Instruments we took will be used in a local Organization called Sheeps Fold. They take care of many poor children in the rural area of the town we visited. These instruments will be used for music classes and Bible Studies as well.

Telma was able to visit 12 small villages in 5 days and share the Gospel with groups of teens and women who hunger for hope and guidance in these distant communities ( some up to 30 miles on dirt roads).

I took care of the boys while also helping the staff of this organization we assist in planning for various projects and in sharing the Gospel.

As for the possible move to this area next year we feel that much could be done by the Salvation Express there. One more town is being considered but the purchase of a boat to assist the river bank population is a pivot point for it.

Last minute trip.

We are heading up north some 500miles this saturday. One of the Organizatins we help up north recieved a grant to purchase musical instruments and we were able to get them down here for half price of what they would of payed up there.
Telma and the boys are going along. We will be travelling in our car. Just this week I was able to get an awesome rack to put on top of it making this trip possible. Telma and I will be also giving Bible studies in rural communites and continuing the irrigation project we started up there last trip. We will be up there for 7 days. This area is one of the ones we might move to next year.
Please pray that we will have a safe trip and that the word of God would penetrate the hearts of these folks.

We made it back Saturday after 18 hours on the road. All went well and the team that went felt that the job was well done. We had twelve participants divided into 5 teams ( drama, puppets, clowns, irrigation and donation distribution). God protected us and blessed us so that the results were great. All areas that were visited were rural and very poor.

Another big piece of good news is that the Brazilian Bible Society has renewed their partnership with us for another year. This is great since their donations of Bibles has blessed many folks that live in the areas we have visited.

Dear friends Matheus and I leave today on a 7 day trip 1300kms up north to take Bibles, clothing, food, drip irrigation and best of all 4 evangelism teams. Please pray for us as we travel and in all the activities we will be taking part in up there. This area has not had consistent rain for the past 8 months!
Please pray for the wives that stay behind and tend for our families while we are gone. It is always a tough task for them.

From the 12th to the 20th of March we will be heading up north to a area called Jequitinhonha Valley. We are taking a truckload of clothing, 2 evangelism teams ( 1 with puppets the other one a drama team) and an irrigation expert! The clothing will be seperated by a Organization that helps poor families in the rural area. The evangelism teams will be visiting schools out in the rural areas and doing evangelism and the Irrigation expert will be helping set up an drip irrigation system that is gravity feed! These are the new headquarters of the Salvation Express. We are finally getting finished up moving in. The move was right on time since we are recieving many donations and our other storage, a two car garage, was to small. In this warehouse we are able to not only store donations and have our offices but also park the bus and up to 4 cars inside! We are also having weekely Bible studies for non-christians. We call it a non-religious Bible study. Our goal is to present the Gospel pure and simple from the Bible. It has been a big success with up to 10 non-christians attending, and these are male adults, a real miracle!

We are busy moving into the new headquarters for the Salvation Express. Our old garage simply got to small for all the donations we have recieved and there was the desperate need to have the bus in a covered storage area.
We were able to find a big storage building in which we will be able to put the bus, donations our offices and have weekly public Bible studies.
Last week and this week are being dedicated to this move. God really opened up the doors and gave us an awesome building for a good price!

We are back at the headquaters of the Salvation Express. We were at Camp Victoria for about three weeks after Christmas, helping with the leadership training and the zip line building project. It was great to be able to spend time with my parents and the kids really enjoyed the time there.
I was scheduled to go on a trip up North on the 8th but it was cancelled since another bus went to take up the group bigger than we could transport.
We might be travelling in the end of this month. Lots of donations coming in so there is a lot of work in organizing all of it.

As we march into 2010 it is very important that we look at all that went on in 2009. In fact the end of 2009 is more important than the begining of 2010. Why? because the way we ended 2009 reflects the way we will probably end 2010, unless there is a change in direction.

We had a great Christmas with my parents. The kids really enjoyed seeing grandpa and grandma!
We will be here at Camp Victoria till the 6th of January. I will be helping assemble a zipline and do some maintanence on the camp bikes.
On the 6th we return home and then on the 8th I leave on a trip with the Salvation Express some 1000 miles up north to take 10 doctors and dentists to help in a very poor region of Brazil. We will be assisting a Christian ministry up there for 7 days.

Please pray about the possibility os the Salvation Express aquireing a boat on the San Francisco River. This has been a dream of the board for some years. The San Francisco River is over 1700 miles long.

The goal would be to assist poor communities on a stretch of 250 miles of river. The boat would serve as a floating Seminary, School, Health Clicnic and agricultura consulting office. It is a big project way beyond our power, that is why the board feels it is from God. Just as God told Gideon:

"The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her," Judges 7:2

The things God has for us are way out of our confort zone and well beyond our power or capability!

This is the boat that is in view for sale. Of course it is way over-priced and we do not have the funds but we are praying for God to give us the boat. It is big enough as well as versitale enough. So keep us in your prayers and remenber that God's plan for your life is way beyond your reach so that you must depend on Him and when you look back one day that you may say," The Lord did amazing things!"

Hello everyone! Our trip to the Machakali reservation was cancelled due to some requirements the indians made. They wanted to distribute the food we took themselves and all clothing donated had to be brand new. Since those two requirements are out of our reach we postponed the trip till next year. After all our goal is to evangelize and help those who are poor, since such requirements were made these folks did not seem to needy. Hopefully next year it will work out to visit this area!

This weekend we recieved a group of Dentist and Doctors who came to serve in both orphanages we have here in town. The Salvation Express organized this event. All went well and many all the orphans recieved treatment. Many folks who live in the rural area also recieved medical and dental attention. Folks were impacted with the fact that people would care enough for the as to come and treat them for free. But that is exactly what Jesus did for us!

We are all doing well and busy as the school year comes to a close this month. Matheus and Max have adapted well to the new school and we have been very thankful for that!
I have been working a lot on the Moody Bible School training I have been taking. I hope to have my first 40 credit hours done by January. It has been a tough task studying again but God has blessed a lot. Next year I plan to finhis the other 20 credit hours that will be missing and with that get an Associate of Biblical Studies degree. Going to really need God´s help for that!
Next month we are organizing a trip with donations, doctors and evangelism to s different Indean Reservation some 600 miles away, the Maxakalís. Well God bless you all!!!

Trip to Xakriaba Reservation

We are back from this very successful trip. The Lord protected us as we travelled and our families back home.

We were able to take many donations of clothing, toys and food. Best of all were the Bibles and Christian literature that the Brazilian Bible Society donated for us to take.

Our first stop was at the San Francisco River, were we worked along side a local missionary who ministers to the poor folks who live on the river banks.

The weather was very warm nearly 110F. We nicknamed the bus, "The Microwave of Salvation".

We visited an Orphanage for children ages 0-3 who have gone through starvation or have dratic health problems. There were over 30 kids and we were able to spend some hours with them.

At the reservation we visited the main school and gave out Bibles to teachers and High Schollers. For the younger children we gave out

Christian childrens material. In the evenings we had evangelistical events with plays, songs with an accordian and much more! The folks really enjoyed it.

The Brazilian goverment is making it ilegal for missionaries to go into these tribes. The reponsibility is falling upon the native Christians more and more.

We have been busy these past days trying to get our website up and running.

Our trip was great. It took us 36 hours to get to the Seminary we helped at. This Seminary is for Native Brazilian Indians only. We took doctors, dentists, a group of Christian pupputs and donations. At this seminary there are 19 different tribes represented. Each tribe has its own language but everyone speaks portuguese. Thanks for all your prayers!

The Salvation Express had an awesome trip up to northern Brazil. We took a group of Doctors and Dentists. We have moved again! Telma and the boys are doing fine and happy in their new surroundings. We are now living in the town of Ouro Fino (Thin Gold). Our move was one more step into joining a mission organization.

I have been working alongside the Express of Salvation for the past 8 months, a Non-profit christian mission that is 5 years old. They invited me to come and serve as their administrative coordinater and with trip logistics.

As I have mentioned before the Express of Salvation serves by organizing evangelistical trips to poor areas of Brazil and in locations that have been hit by natural disaters, taking food, clothing, medical help and most important of all the message of grace.

The board for this mission has been a big help in the past 4 trips I helped coordinate with the other ministry I was temporarily with. The other big bonus is that I get time off to finish this first year of Bible training I am taking.

I will have more info in my next prayer letter.

The trip up north was great. We were able to reach 2000 kids and teens in the group I lead. We traveled to many little villages out in country. The evangelistical events were held in schools and public courts. It was an intense time but the Lord took care of everything. Thanks for your prayers!!!

Saturday at 3 together with a group I leave on a trip to the same northern state I visited a month ago. Our goal is to reach as many kids and adults as possible with the message of the Gospel. We will be having evangelistic events in the mornings and afternoons for public schools and in the evening for all public. Please pray for protection for all those going and their families staying behind. The teams going add up to a total of 20 people. Pray that the soil will be ready for the good seed. We will also be distributing food and clothing donations with the Red Cross of Brazil. We come back 10 days later.

Hello everyone. The camp for poor kids was awesome. We were a little overcrowded with 130 kids ages 6 to 11. God sent some great volunters and all went well. Our theme was,"The eyes of the Lord are everywhere". Half of these kids were from the day care center and the other half were kids they invited.

The trip up to "Big River of the North" state went well. We were able to schedule 12 Evangelistical events. The challenge was that the area is very devout to many Catholic saints. One place we visited had a giant statue of a saint being built of over 173 feet tall! The trip had to be re-scheduled to the 13th to the 23rd of June because of a 10 day state holiday uo there for another catholic saint. We are looking forward to the trip and count on your prayers! We are now preparing for a camp for poor kids the end of this month. God bless you all!!!

Your prayers made a difference!!!

Finally made it back. The trip went well and we were able to reach many for Christ and also give the local Churches and Pastors the support they so desperatly need. Our group consisted of 29 workers devided into three evangelizm teams. My team did evangelizm events and also took care of the distribution of donations. We worked from 7:30 am to 1:30 am next day almost every day. It was an intense time but very rewarding! Thanks for all your prayers and support in this whole project. We estimate that around 12000 people were impacted with the Gospel. Many made a desicion for Christ and know we leave the growth for the Holy Spirit to work out. The next trip is scheduled for June.

Trip to São Francisco Valley BRAZIL!

Hello family and friends. On friday I head out with another 29 people on a 10 day trip to a very poor area I visited a month ago. Our plan is to reach 15000 people with the gospel with 25 evangelistical events. We will also be taking 66000 pounds in food and donations. Telma and the boys will stay behind since we just moved into a new house. The Brazilian Bible society gave us about 300 Bibles to give out. We also recieved a generouse donation to buy Bibles.

Please pray for the safety of all that are going and for all that are staying behind.

We´ve been busy with Carnival camp. Have 132 young people from two churches at Refuge Camp. We are implanting the program so that takes extra work. Here are some photos of the Camp and of the climbing wall.

Found out the day before yesterday that we will be moving to another house. Our rent is paid by a family that supports us in that way. It is located close to a brother and sister of Telma´s. The boys are excited over being even closer to their cousins.

In one of the houses we visited there sat a little boy all by himself. It was a shocking site to see yet happy since he was not hungry. Poverty surrounds him yet he gave a little smile when I gave him some candies and toys we had taken. This is just one of millions of kids who have no other hope waiting for them other than a miracle from God.

Hello everyone,

Sorry for taking so long to post news!

I Just got back from a trip to the poorest place I have ever been. It was shocking to see folks who do not have electricity, running water, live in a dirt hut and still have to travel 30 miles to get to the nearest town. But yet there they were happy to recieve us as we visited this area to prepare for the mission trip in the end of March. God blessed us a ton and all the events are scheduled. We will even be visiting an Indian reservation.
